The Saint Lucia Passport in 2026: Visa-Free Countries, Schengen, the UK Visa and Validity

For many families the passport is the point of the whole exercise, so I am precise about what it does and does not open. The figures come from the BRIDGES passport index of 4 October 2026 unless stated otherwise.
The numbers
| Indicator | Value |
|---|---|
| Destinations without a prior visa | 140 of 226 |

| eVisa | 38 |
| Visa required | 48 |
| Rank | 33 of 199 passports |
The CIU visa-free page says “more than 146 countries”. Counts differ by method, so I quote the dated BRIDGES index.

The UK change
The UK imposed a visa on Saint Lucia citizens from 15:00 GMT on 5 March 2026, with a transition period until 16 April 2026 for travellers who already had an electronic travel authorisation and tickets, as described on the BRIDGES programme page with reference to the UK Statement of Changes HC 1691. If you bought this passport for London, that reason is gone. Saint Lucia also has no E-2 investor treaty with the United States.
Validity and dual citizenship
According to BRIDGES, since 5 August 2025 the passport is issued for 10 years to adults and 5 years to children under 18, and it is biometric. Citizenship is for life and passes to children. Saint Lucia allows dual citizenship. Remember the rule in Act No. 22 of 2025: no change of name for five years after registration, except for marriage, divorce, adoption and a few legal reasons.

Taxes
BRIDGES explains that people who are not resident pay tax only on income from Saint Lucia, while residents (183 days or more) are taxed on worldwide income at progressive rates up to 30%. There is no capital gains or inheritance tax. A passport alone does not change your tax residence.
The European Union
The visa waiver is in force as of October 2026. BRIDGES points to the European Commission’s eighth report under the visa suspension mechanism of 19 December 2025, which treats investment citizenship as a possible ground for suspension, and to the Commission’s July 2026 letter to five Caribbean states, Saint Lucia among them, proposing to phase the programmes out by 1 June 2028. Nothing has been suspended so far.
My view
I present the Saint Lucia passport as a good travel document for Europe, Latin America and much of Asia, not for the UK or North America. If long stays in Europe are the goal, I suggest pairing it with a European residence permit. More travel details are in the BRIDGES visa-free article.
